Voor het Rijksmuseum Twenthe in Enschede heb ik de tentoonstelling 'Armando - Gestalten' uitgelicht.
'Armando – Gestalten' is de eerste tentoonstelling die is gewijd aan de levensgrote, bronzen sculpturen van Armando (1929-2018), een van de bekendste en meest veelzijdige naoorlogse kunstenaars van Nederland.
Het merendeel van de beelden in de tentoonstelling is ontstaan in de afgelopen 25 jaar. De vroegste bronzen sculpturen uit Armando’s oeuvre zijn veelal iconische objecten; een vlag (Fahne) of brokstuk (Bruchstück). Later ontstaan er menselijke figuren. Herkenbaar omdat ze grofweg de vorm van een lichaam volgen, maar tegelijkertijd anoniem en nooit helemaal af. Armando noemde ze Gestalten. Figuren of gedaanten. Het zijn ongrijpbare verschijningen, menselijk en onmenselijk tegelijkertijd, die hun vorm hebben gekregen in klei en later zijn gegoten in brons.

'Armando - Gestalten' is the first exhibition of the life size bronze sculptures by Armando (1929-2018), one of the most famous and versatile post-war artists of the Netherlands.
Most of the sculptures in the exhibition were created in the past 25 years. The earliest bronze sculptures of Armando are mostly iconic objects; a flag (Fahne) or fragment (Bruchstück). Later human-like figures appear. Recognizable, because they roughly resemble the shape of a body, but at the same time anonymous and never completely finished. Armando called them 'Gestalten'. They are elusive appearances, human and un-human at the same time, that were shaped in clay and were later cast in bronze.
