Filmhuis Lumen, Delft
Filmhuis lumen is een klein filmhuis in Delft dat voor het grootste deel gerund wordt door vrijwilligers. Het bied plek voor films over onderbelichte sociale en historische achtergronden, en van creatieve makers met vaak een afwijkende of tegendraadse visie op cinema. In 2025 wil het filmhuis verhuizen naar een nieuwe grotere locatie, om meer plek te bieden voor het sterk gestegen aanbod van kwaliteitsfilms, en voor nieuwe doelgroepen zoals jongeren en expats. Ook voor filmeducatie, randprogrammering en samenwerking met lokale culturele instellingen wil het filmhuis op de nieuwe locatie meer ruimte bieden.
Voor de nieuwe locatie in de Hooghe Delft (gepland op de hoek van de Ireneboulevard en het van Leeuwenhoek park), is een concept lichtplan gemaakt voor het interieur en exterieur. In afwachting van de financiering van het project, zal het ontwerp verder uitgewerkt worden voor de geplande opening in 2025.
Het uitgangspunt voor het concept is een warm en sfeervol lichtbeeld, met een vleugje sprankeling en allure. Tegelijkertijd is eenvoud ook belangrijk voor een vrijwilligersorganisatie waar de kennis en middelen voor het bedienen en onderhoud van een complexe installatie niet vanzelfsprekend aanwezig zijn.
In de foyer zijn vooral spots gebruikt voor een warm sfeervol licht, en voldoende flexibiliteit om de ruimte voor verschillende soorten gelegenheden te kunnen gebruiken. Verschillende accenten zijn aangebracht in de nissen, de trapleuningen en de bar. En in de akoestische wand is verlichting geïntegreerd als een eyecatcher die de ruimte een geheel eigen karakter geeft. Ook wordt de mogelijkheid onderzocht om custom armaturen te ontwerpen voor bewegwijzering, en in de hoge plafonds, waarin naast algemene spot verlichting ook filmposters geïntegreerd kunnen worden, als knipoog naar de filmposters in het plafond van de oude locatie van het filmhuis.
Voor extra sprankeling worden speciale armaturen toegepast in de gevel om de kozijnen rondom de hoge ramen te doen oplichten, maar wel op een subtiele manier waardoor het zicht naar binnen niet door verblinding ontnomen wordt.

Filmhuis Lumen is a small movie theatre in Delft, the Netherlands, which is run mostly by volunteers. They offer a space for films about under illuminated social and historical backgrounds, as well as flims by creative makers with an different view of cinema than the mainstream blockbusters. In 2025, Filmhuis Lumen wants to move to a new larger location, to be able to offer space for the strongly increased offerings of high quality films, and to offer a space for new target audiences like youth and expats. The larger location will also offer more space for film education and other programming in collaboration with local cultural organizations.
For this new location in “de Hooghe Delft” building, a concept lighting plan was designed for the interior and exterior. In anticipation of the financing of the project, the design will be further developed for the opening, planned for 2025.
The premise of the lighting concept is a warm and welcoming atmosphere, with a touch of vibrancy and allure. At the same time, simplicity is important for an organization ran by volunteers that does not necessarily have all the knowledge to operate and maintain a complex lighting installation.
The foyer is mostly lit by spotlights for a warm contrasting light, which has enough flexibility to be able to adjust for different types of events and uses of the space. Extra accents were created in the niches, the stairs and the bar. And in the acoustic wall, lighting was integrated to create an eyecatcher that gives the space its own unique character.
The possibility of a custom luminaire design is being explored, for signage, and for the high ceilings in which spotlighting as well as film posters could be integrated, as a reference to the posters in the ceiling of the old location of the movie theater.
For an extra touch of vibrancy, special luminaires in the façade illuminate the large window frames, yet done in a subtle way that does not obstruct the view inside by blinding the viewer.
